Monticello locals hoping to catch actors on scene of movie shoot

MONTICELLO, Ill. (WCIA) — The talk of the town is a movie is being filmed right here in Central Illinois.

On Tuesday, WCIA reported that our crews have watched as the movie set for Chili Finger has been put up, but on Wednesday, Monticello residents discussed what it means to get an up close look at film making magic.

It’s all happening the old Hardees at North Market and West Center Streets.

Despite the weather, people gathered outside — hoping to catch a glimpse of the actors inside. Some of those waiting outside said they believe this will help bring more exposure to the city.

“Wonderful for the economy, the restaurants were full last night, the parking lot was full,” Susan Chumbley said.

The rain couldn’t stop people in Monticello from trying to get a peak inside the John Goodman restaurant.

“It was really exciting. The city must have not mentioned it to anybody. And then all of a sudden the John Goodman sign went up,” Brown Bag owner Leslie Sims said.

Everyone is buzzing about the movie being filmed inside the old Hardee’s.

“My dad actually told me about it. He had to turn on the water to the building,” Andrew Bailey said.

Several people across town were shocked after hearing the celebrities coming to the city.

“So [my dad is] like ‘John Goodman and Sean Astin, and…’ I can’t remember who else was in it, but I was like, ‘These are like legit stars.’ Like, it’s so cool. Like, I’ve seen tons of movies with them,” Bailey said.

Sims couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw one of the actresses walk through her deli’s doors.

“I looked up and I said, ‘That woman in line looks so familiar,’ and we waited for her to speak,” Sims said.

Sims said it was Judy Greer standing in front of her ordering a sandwich. But Beth Seibert gets to see the action from her window. One of the crew members asked if they could use her yard for a scene.

“The gentleman that came over doing the drafting type stuff commented on the yard and asked if it was possible,” Seibert said. “I said, ‘Sure.'”

Now her garden could possibly be featured in the movie. She said being able to contribute is a plus for her and helping the city get all the exposure it can.

“Anything that’s good for Monticello I’m for, it’s my Camelot. It’s a beautiful place to live,” Seibert said.

Seibert said she was in the yard all day making sure it was up to Hollywood standards.
