Sarah Jessica Parker is standing by Carrie Bradshaw's latest controversial style choice. In season three of And Just Like That , the beloved character is depicted in a voluminous gingham hat that initially caught fans by surprise last summer.

In a new interview with USA Today , Parker revealed that she selected the Maryam Keyhani chapeau herself.

“I saw the hat and wanted it on my head,” the actress said. “At this point, there’s no pretend dilly-dallying around. We pretty much just put stuff on my head and photograph it, and hope that Michael Patrick [King, executive producer of AJLT ] is hospitable to the idea.”

Parker explained that the hat was a "punctuation point" to the rest of her look, which consisted of a vintage Ossie Clark maxidress and Dr. Scholl's mules.

"Once you've put a lot of hats on your head, you feel like it's missing its punctuation point,” she said. “So there was that hat. It was going to be a lovely summer day, and it just felt like the period at the end of the sentence. I loved it and [King] agreed. I feel we've really worn him down. His eyes have adapted to large-scale things on heads now, so he’s pretty generous about how often they can appear.”

In the same article, King said he anticipated strong reactions to Carrie's statement accessory, which fans of the show called "outlandish" and "unhinged" last spring after Parker was spotted on set.

“It’s like, ‘Hey, everybody, we’re back! Here’s a hat that Carrie would wear eating sherbet in Washington Square Park,'" King said. "Why not? I've learned over the years that sometimes logic is not as good as a hat. It makes people say, ‘I love it. I hate it. Oh my God, what was she thinking?’"
