SWEPCO replacing 20,000 aging utility poles for more reliable service

TEXARKANA, Texas ( KTAL/KMSS ) — SWEPCO is in the midst of replacing 20,000 of its utility poles.

“So this is a heavier class of wood. A utility pole will have a certain lifespan and we’ve identified these 1st 20,000 that have sort of served their usefulness and we’re going in, we’re replacing them.” says SWEPCO Spokesperson Amanda Keeney “And it’s all intended to better serve our customers, more resilient, better reliability.”

Swepco works to improve infrastructure

Work is already underway for around 50 crews in Texas and Louisiana, with Arkansas soon to follow. They are trying to keep inconveniences to a minimum, but they want to remind customers to exercise caution around work zones and have a little patience.

“If there are interruptions to service, there would be that notice direct to those customers either from a door hanger or automated phone call to give them that heads up. But I assure you anytime our crews are out working, they’re working with safety at the forefront and they’re going to work as quickly and safely as possible,” says Keeney.

The timeline for this particular project is expected to leave them better equipped to keep the power on by the time the next storm season arrives.

“This work will continue now through the end of the year and just as we do day in and day out, you’re going to see our crews, you’re going to see our contracted operators working side by side on this project, on the next project, and it’s all intended to improve our service,” says Keeney.

Michigan to Mexico City present tight NASCAR travel logistics

The NASCAR Cup Series will race in Mexico City next weekend, the first points paying race on international soil, which requires an intense logistical process considering they're practically racing just south of Canada this weekend. Michigan International Speedway. That race should end somewhere around 5 p.m. but the Mexico race cars will already be en route to the southern border according to NASCAR's vice president of racing operations Tom Bryant, a former Army Ranger who specializes in logistics. "Sunday night in Michigan, the Cup Series teams will swap out their race cars that morning before the garage opens," said Bryant on NASCAR's Hauler Talk podcast this week. 'Be very careful': Republican Senators get stern warning from one of their own

A longtime Republican political strategist and publisher of The Bulwark is issuing a warning to the senators in her party that they need to be careful where they stand on their colleague, Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA), being manhandled and handcuffed at a news conference when he tried to ask a question.
