NIGERIAN PLAYERS ABROAD: Top 10 Nigerian male footballers in Europe

In the first part of this series, ABIODUN ADEWALE highlights the standout performers among Nigerian players in the just-concluded 2024/25 season in Europe Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray) Osimhen broke new grounds individually and for his club last season, powering Galatasaray to a league and cup double with 37 goals and eight assists in 41 games across all competitions. The 26-year-old’s season was bleak at the start after he was left off Napoli’s new project under Antonio Conte and he also had two failed summer moves to Chelsea and Al-Hilal. When it looked like he would be without a club, at least until January 2025, Galatasaray welcomed him on loan and that proved to be a masterstroke, leading them to their 25th Super Lig title as well as their 19th Turkish Cup triumph. In the process, he became the highest-scoring foreigner in a season in the club and Turkish football history, when he broke Mario Jardel’s 34-goal mark. Although Galata...

Osimhen rejects €40m Al-Hilal offer

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has turned down a renewed mega offer from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, opting instead to remain in Europe as interest from top sides intensifies, The PUNCH reports. Al Hilal, who recently appointed former Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi as manager, had made Osimhen their top transfer priority ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. In an effort to lure the Nigerian forward who is presently in Nigeria for holiday, the Saudi giants tabled a staggering salary offer worth €120m over three years, roughly €40m annually. However, despite the lucrative nature of the deal, the 26-year-old declined. According to French outlet Foot Mercato, “The offer was quite impressive but ultimately did not convince the player.” The report added that Osimhen “has decided to reject Al Hilal’s offer and now wishes to take his time before choosing his next club.” This marks the third time Osimhen has rejected Al Hilal’s advances. Italian outlet Calciomerca...

Thunder HC addresses struggling stars ahead of Finals Game 2

Gambar
Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault hasn't lost confidence in struggling stars Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams ahead of Sunday's NBA Finals Game 2 against the Indiana Pacers. While MVP point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander delivered with a game-high 38 points in Game 1, Holmgren and Williams weren't factors, combining to shoot an ugly 28.6 percent (8-of-28), scoring 23 points. The Thunder blew a 15-point fourth-quarter lead and lost on a last-second Tyrese Halliburton jumper, 111-110. Daigneault was unconcerned with the duo's disappointing NBA Finals debuts, although his comments present a problem Oklahoma City might not be able to solve. "Usually delivering in the Finals is not on the curriculum for third-year players," Daigneault said. ( h/t ESPN ) The Thunder added Holmgren (No. 2 overall) and Williams (No. 12 overall) in the 2022 NBA Draft, and both were key to the franchise going 68-14 this season, the best in its hist...

Jets Trade Pitch Flips Breece Hall, Draft Pick for $68 Million WR

The New York Jets need to find a running mate for Garrett Wilson. Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report proposed a hypothetical trade that could help the Jets check that item off their bucket list. New York Jets receive: wide receiver Terry McLaurin, running back Austin Ekeler, and a 2025 fifth-round pick Washington Commanders receive: running back Breece Hall and a 2026 second-round pick “The Jets are looking for a franchise reset in 2025, with a new coach in Aaron Glenn and a new quarterback in Justin Fields . Getting off to a fast start would help both Glenn and Fields, and adding McLaurin could help New York do it. McLaurin could be particularly valuable to Fields, who has shown himself to be an elite scrambler but who is still developing as a pocket passer,” Knox explained. “It’s also worth noting that Jets passing game coordinator Scott Turner previously coached McLaurin as Washington’s offensive coordinator,” Knox added. Veteran DL D.J. Jones: Broncos' FA Haul Features 'Game-Changers'

Gambar
The Denver Broncos re-signed defensive tackle D.J. Jones this offseason, although there was much speculation that he had played his last down in the Mile High City. The veteran trenchman even garnered a raise from the Broncos, earning $13 million annually on his new three-year deal, up by $3 million. Jones was a bigger domino to fall than perhaps many Broncos fans realized. After all, every one of the team's three big outside free-agent signings had a history playing with Jones. Tight end Evan Engram played with Jones at Ole Miss. Safety Talanoa Hufanga and linebacker Dre Greenlaw played with Jones with the San Francisco 49ers. However, if you ask Jones, it was the Broncos' 2024 body of work that did the talking in the team's free-agent recruiting talks, more so than his ties to Engram, Hufanga, and Greenlaw. “I don’t think I had to do too much. I think what we did last year spoke volumes," Jones said following Thursday...
