Village of Capitan halts bulk water sales due to fire danger
The Village of Capitan has declared a water emergency for the entire village. The declaration temporarily suspends the sale of bulk water for all purposes other than fire protection, agricultural, and residential uses. Sign up for our Newsletters The governor signed this executive order in regard to New Mexico currently experiencing the worst drought conditions ever recorded. According to Executive Order 2025-210, climate conditions indicate future conditions could result in a loss of up to 25 percent of available water supply over the next 50 years, and extraordinary measures may be necessary to protect public health, ensure public safety and wellbeing, and provide for the economic stability of New Mexico. This motion was passed by the governing body of Capitan and is aimed at reducing fire danger amid worsening drought conditions across the state.
