'Belltown Hellcat' driver found guilty on two counts of reckless driving

The 22-year-old known as the " Belltown Hellcat " driver was found guilty of two counts of reckless driving in Seattle Municipal Court on June 5.

A jury found Miles Hudson guilty of reckless driving by operating a motor vehicle with willful or wanton disregard for safety of others or property, and reckless driving by racing a vehicle on a public street.

His sentencing is July 7.

The Seattle City Attorney's office said Hudson was captured on video performing high-speed stunts and reaching speeds of more than 100 miles per hour on downtown streets with his modified Dodge Charger. The videos were shared on social media.

The city said enforcement efforts to address the dangerous driving began in January 2024.

Hudson was first stopped in early January of 2024 for driving recklessly in downtown Seattle. Officers gave him a verbal warning about speeding in highly populated city areas, and he was released. In a traffic report, officers noted that Hudson’s car was wrapped with tiger stripes and an enlarged Hellcat logo and had colorful LED headlights. Based on prior experience, the officer said they “could tell that the exhaust was modified to be exceedingly loud … as I could hear the engine exhaust from blocks away with my windows up.”

The modified Dodge Charger woke people up in the middle of the night, according to numerous complaints from residents in the area.

According to court documents, during a traffic stop, Hudson allegedly told an officer, "I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing. I'm going to make a career out of this," noting that his social media following made the activity lucrative.

Hudson was charged in March of 2024 with two counts of reckless driving. The city ordered him not to drive his vehicle.

A few months later, residents were once again filing complaints as the vehicle tore through Belltown.

He was taken into custody in July of 2024, before a series of court proceedings, including an additional arrest for release violations, that ultimately led to trial this week that ended in a jury conviction.
