California high-speed rail project faces scrutiny amid funding and progress concerns
California voters approved Proposition 1A in 2008 to build a high-speed train. The train was supposed to be ready by 2020. But now, more than five years after that, no trains are running and no tracks have been laid. A recent federal review looked closely at the project and found many problems. This has made some lawmakers question whether the project should continue or if it is a waste of money. Assemblywoman Alexandra Macedo said, “This project has wasted taxpayer money. It’s time to stop defending bad decisions.” She believes the project won’t succeed, even in parts of the state like between Merced and Bakersfield.
