Dour, defensive, and disconnected: Stroll’s bizarre Canadian GP press conference

Gambar
It was an extraordinary press conference. The kind that left even the greenest of journalists shaking their heads in disbelief at what they had just witnessed. Lance Stroll ’s performance in the pre-Canadian Grand Prix press event was as unconvincing as it was baffling. As he spoke about the presumably optimistic news of being passed fit for his home race , he did so with all the joy of learning that his pet dog had been put down. The Canadian trudged up the stairs to the press room in Montreal like he was on a trip to the dentist for root canal work, where he plonked himself down in front of the media. Instead of beaming and being delighted to be back and fit enough to compete in his home race after being forced to sit out of the Spanish Grand Prix due to a wrist injury , he was incredibly dour in his responses. He was cagey with the details of the wrist problem, cited as the reason he withdrew from the Spanish GP after a disappointing qualifying s...

'Two Great Horses': Déjà Vu In Belmont Stakes As Sovereignty Defeats Journalism Again

Gambar
It was déjà vu all over again in the 2025 Belmont Stakes. With better trips for each of the top three finishers from the Kentucky Derby five weeks ago, it was, once again, all Sovereignty in the final sixteenth of a mile. The Godolphin homebred by Into Mischief prevailed by about three lengths over Preakness winner Journalism, giving Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott his second winner in the third leg of the Triple Crown. Kentucky Derby third-place finisher Baeza also checked in third once again in the Belmont. "We had a repeat of the Derby," Mott told FOX. "I think what it means is it's for real. They're three really good horses, and I'm glad that [Sovereignty] was able to come back and put in a race like he did in the Derby." Sovereignty (5-2) and Journalism (2-1) hooked up briefly at the head of the stretch; the Preakness winner and Umberto Rispoli got first run on the frontrunning Rodriguez and took command at the head of the lane, but Sover...

Belmont Stakes 2025: Results and payouts as Sovereignty claims final leg of the Triple Crown

Gambar
The 157th running of the Belmont Stakes belongs to Sovereignty! Sunday's final leg of the Triple Crown pitted Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty against Preakness Stakes champion Journalism in a 1 1/4 mile rematch of their early May showdown at Churchill Downs. Journalism (2-1) went off as the favorite on a fast track at Saratoga Race Course, which again hosted The Test of Champions as Belmont Park continues undergoing renovations. Journalism tried to pull a move from third to first with a quarter mile left in the race, but Sovereignty (5-2) was a step quicker, overtaking Journalism on the final stretch in a battle that lived up to the hype. It's the second victory at the Belmont Stakes for trainer Bill Mott, who chose to hold Sovereignty out of the Preakness. The three biggest thoroughbred races in the United States delivered as much intrigue and excitement as possible for a season without a Triple Crown contender. Sunday's conclusion was a perfect...

Sovereignty Trainer Bill Mott Reflects on Skipping Preakness After Winning Belmont Stakes

The 2025 Belmont Stakes delivered for those hoping for a competitive race, with Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty turning on the jets in the final stretch to blow past Preakness winner and overall favorite Journalism to win the day. It was a great win but a touch painful for those hoping to see a Triple Crown winner; Sovereignty won the Derby and Belmont but the team behind the horse opted to skip the Preakness Stakes last month. After Saturday's race, Tom Rinaldi of Fox Sports found Sovereignty trainer Bill Mott and asked him about the decision to hold the horse out of the second leg of the Triple Crown. "It turned out good," Mott said when asked how the decision manifested itself on the track Saturday. "If we wouldn't have won today we would've taken a lot of criticism. It turned out good. Sometimes you make the right decision and a lot of times we make the wrong ones. But today it really worked out well." Hi...
